Our Services

We offer a range of services as shown below.

Abdominal ultrasound

Our systematic approach to scanning aims to ensure all your clinical questions can be answered. We offer abdominal scans for small animals and a range of exotics – you can contact us for more details. Please note that mild sedation may be required for abdominal ultrasound scans.

Parathyroid and thyroid glands

Hyperplasia and neoplasia are endocrine conditions of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. We use the capability of ultrasound imaging to resolve very small soft-tissue structures to diagnose such conditions.

Abdominal ultrasound portosystemic shunt (PSS)

Portosystemic shunts (PSS) are congenital malformations of the hepatic portal venous drainage system and can be either a congenital or an acquired condition. An abdominal ultrasound scan is routinely done when PSS is suspected; however, PSS will be confirmed in only approximately 60–80% of cases.

Pregnancy check

In dogs and cats, ultrasound can be used to detect pregnancy from 21 days after mating, but is most reliable after 28 days. We use ultrasound imaging to not only confirm pregnancy, but also make an estimate of foetal numbers, to observe the movement and heartbeat of a foetus, or to identify foetal death.

Cardiac ultrasound

Using echocardiography we can detect and evaluate acquired cardiac diseases, such as hypertrophic or dilated cardiomyopathies, and pulmonary hypertension. Pre-cardiac assessment prior to general anaesthetic for dogs and cats, can also be arranged. Our services cover two-dimensional, M-mode, and Doppler examinations (Colour and Pulse Wave) for small animals, and we use a range of phased array cardiac transducers.

Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) and Tru-Cut biopsies

We offer ultrasound-guided FNA’s of abdominal organs, abdominal masses, lung masses, etc. Samples are often taken with only mild sedation. These samples can frequently provide useful information about cytology, or identify whether a mass is benign or malignant. While we can take a Tru-Cut biopsy sample, ideally this procedure should be performed in a 24-hour hospital environment. Biopsies require a deeper sedation or sometimes brief general anesthesia.

Thoracic ultrasound

We offer thoracic ultrasound (lung scans) to detect pleural/pericardial effusions, and pulmonary or mediastinal mass evaluation.

Ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis

With a simplified in-plane ultrasound-guided centesis, the needle and the volume of the fluid to be drained can be visualised, thereby reducing errors and risks.
